*Chesley Award
Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 12:56AM To my absolute surprise, I was nominated this year for two Chesley Awards. Even more to my surprise, I actually won one of them! I still can't believe it. My Planetary Alignment piece (pictured below) won in the 2010 Best Unpublished Color category. I am completely blown away. I can't tell you how honored and humbled I am to even be mentioned in the same sentence as the other nominees and winners. My deepest thanks to everyone who has supported me over the years, to ASFA for nominating me, and for everyone who voted on my entry. I promise I'll work even harder and keep doing my best to contribute to the science fiction and fantasy community. :)
(Also, I will be switching this journal to Blogspot or Wordpress soon; Squarespace's native blog is clunky and makes commenting trickier than necessary).

Congratulations - this piece certainly deserves recognition! Are prints available for sale? I'm always on the lookout for art featuring strong, brown-skinned women. I want my daughter to be able to see that people who look like her have a place in fantasy too - it's not just about pink princesses waiting for prince charming to come along.
Greetings -- I came to your blog via Tobias Buckell's blog, where he posted a small image of "Planetary Alignment". It's a marvelous, striking image, and I too wish I could have a print of it. Not only do I identify with the woman pictured (wore my hair that way some years ago and occasionally wore a tool belt while doing chores -- none of which were as exciting as what the woman in your artwork is doing, unfortunately), the colors and shapes are lovely, and the entire image hints at an intriguing narrative. Of course I went on to look at your gallery and enjoyed seeing your other work. The images you create are very beautiful and complex. I am glad to know about your art!
P.S. Congratulations on the award!
